Rodolfo Giometti mi dice:

E` bello. Cito tre pezzetti:

> Windows XP Embedded supports a minimal bootable image of 4.8 MB.
>
> Lineo sites a minimum footprint size of 2MB ROM / 4 MB RAM for Real
> Time Linux with an embedded Linux kernel (both are required).

Si noti come non dice quanta ram serve per far girare la "bootable
image" di 5M.

> Each embedded Linux distribution vendor certifies support for only a
> limited number of CPUs

Invece i processori di XP non sono citati :)

Poi, qui:
  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Embedded/xp/evaluation/sysreqs/default.asp
dice i requisiti di sistema:

> To use Microsoft Windows XP Embedded you need:
> PC with 500-megahertz (MHz) or higher processor

E 5MB di ram, immagino :)
Infatti qui
  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/embedded/xp/evaluation/casestudies/natlsemi.asp
parla di cosa ha fatto National Semiconductors:

> Of the first 20 prototype devices, half featured a 256-MB Flash memory
> card and the other half featured an IBM 1-GB microdrive.

> The development team streamlined the OS footprint which also
> included Internet Explorer and Outlook Express to 64 MB
