Da ``Embedded Linux Journal'':
Disney Seeks Linux Ban
The Walt Disney Company has paid US Senator Fritz Hollings $25,000 to
introduce a bill called the SSSCA that would require mandatory Digital
Rights Management (DRM) on all consumer electronics and computer
equipment. Because DRM schemes are effective only when the user is not
allowed to know how they work, the SSSCA--if passed--would make the
development of free operating systems illegal.
A Consumer Electronics Association spokesperson said that CEA opposes
the SSSCA. Major Linux vendors have said nothing.
