MICROSOFT AND PROSECUTORS STILL FAR APART
The Microsoft anti-trust case continues to make very slow progress, despite
trial judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly's efforts to prod both sides to resolve
their differences expeditiously. Although the government has decided not to
pursue the original trial judge's demand for a break-up of the company, it
will continue to seek "conduct remedies" -- such as requiring Microsoft to
allow computer makers to configure machines with non-Microsoft software
applications and requiring that third-party software developers be given
more access to Windows code. (Washington Post 21 Sep 2001)
